About

I’m Ben, a 30 year old developer and tech lead, amateur photographer, audio geek, closet economist and part time at home dad.

I’m currently the technical lead in a team of 12, personally responsible for the team delivering the business systems our clients require. I look after overall architecture and design, mentoring and team building, along with my own development work. I’m also doing more project management than I’d like :-)

I started programming by making a turtle dance around the screen in high school. I studied at ANU where they taught me useful things like Modula-2 and Miranda as part of my B IT. I also managed to get a B Com majoring in Finance and Economics. Since getting a job at a federal government agency I’ve been developing  in Lotus Notes,  C#PL/SQL, Java and Adobe Flex. I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on the agency’s highest profile project, including 18 months as part of the on-site team that keeps the ~$200k/day wheels from falling off.

On personal projects I’ve messed around some dodgy PHP scripts and won a Mashup Australia award for playing with Google App Engine. At the moment, Scala has piqued my interest, but I haven’t done anything with it yet

When I’m not at work I’m taking photos, playing with my boys or geeking out about one of my hobbies. Oh, and occasionally blogging.

If you’re a masochist, follow me on Twitter, or check out my life stream. You can find my resume here which includes my contact details.
